Llandyrnog R.S.C. vs Blackpool True Blues R.S.C.

A charity match between Llandyrnog R.S.C. and Blackpool True Blues R.S.C. was held on 18th April 2009 in Wales in aid of the Davie Cooper Centre.

A huge thanks from all at The Davie Cooper Centre to all involved.

(Match report provided by Mark Campbell of the Blackpool True Blues.)

"The lads from Wales invited the True Blues down to take part in a charity match in aid of the Davie Cooper Centre, as this is a charity that we already support, we had no hesitation in accepting the challenge of an 11 a side match to raise funds for this worthwhile cause.

We (Blackpool True Blues) travelled down by bus, around 35 of us not really sure how we'd do as we are not an experienced team, and we were welcomed with open arms by Iain Robertson and his team.

The match kicked off around 12.30pm and Blackpool were soon on the offensive, this was an early indication of how the match would turn out as the Seasiders hemmed in the hosts in their own half.

After the early pressure, the True Blues drew first blood with a poachers goal from Scott Mitchell (1-0), the lead was quickly doubled by Eli Jackson (2-0) before the Llandyrnog keeper had a howler, conceding a free kick taken directly from the half way line by Lee "Charlie Adam" Keegan (3-0), man of the match, Andy Scott (4-0) then scored the games best goal, a rocket into the top corner from the edge of the box, shortly before a fine goal from young Sam Montgomery sent the teams in at half time at an impressive 5-0 to the team from the Fylde Coast.

The second half was a more cagey game and the boys and girls from North Wales put up a more stern resistance to the incessant Blackpool pressure.

They could not hold out forever and Sam Montgomery grabbed his second and Blackpools sixth with a curling shot from the edge of the box, a goal which belied his years at just 14."
